About Us

a family owned business, was founded by Pete and Mary Huffman on January 1^st, 1970.  Pete was a serious business man with a desire to offer excellent service at an excellent price.  After graduating high school, Pete operated a filling station in Cranberry for about two years.  For the following two years, he served in the U.S. Army, mostly in Korea, and held the position of Specialist 4^th Class at the time of his discharge.  He then went to work for Spot Building Supply Company for seven years before joining Ray Howell at Howell Hardware.  This was a short stent as he left to pursue his dream of owning his own business.

In 1976 they became incorporated, and in 1981 Pete was joined by his son, Gregg, full time after he graduated high school and married his wife, Pam.  In 1990 Pete’s wife, Mary, was diagnosed with cancer, and passed away in 1991.  It was during this time that Gregg’s wife, Pam stepped in to take over Mary’s job as secretary.

In June, 1994 they acquired the adjacent building as a warehouse to add to the growing number of products and business demands.  In 2009 Pete was diagnosed with cancer, and passed away in 2011.  Now, more than 47 years later, owner and operator, Gregg, along with his wife, Pam, and their staff are continuing with Pete’s tradition.  They are proudly serving Mitchell County, NC, and its surrounding areas with hardware, plumbing supplies, Glidden paint, tools, electrical supplies, lumber, stain, and so much more!
